| It is Hijacking, and why is explained in the Site Rules section. Hopefully the staff will forgive me for replying to your post and give us a free pass to help you out by making this a new thread in the appropriate section. I would guess the Rookies Forum...... First I would recommend not just moving your dish where it is already aligned, until you understand all the preparations needed. Before taking anyone's advice, first make corresponding marks on the mounting bracket and mast pole, elevation setting and skew plate so your hubby can easily find where he had it set when he gets back. ![]() Secondly you are going to need to supply information about the dish and LNBs you plan on re-aiming before anyone can give you accurate information about how much you need to readjust. | Regardless the dish and LNB types there are some basics concerning the aiming of the dish that are best kept in mind. Of course the basic concept is to have as clear a view towards the sky as possible, this normally means mounting as high as you safely can (roof) with as clear a view as possible. No trees if you can manage, no overhang from the eavestrough etc. The mast should be mounted as close to vertical as possible then any measurements used from satellite aiming websites such as: http://satcalculator.freehostia.com will be accurate. Try to keep the cable run to under 100 feet and use RG-6 satellite cable. And as Mythmaster suggested, if you are moving an existing setup, mark the positions of the mounts so you should be close to aligned in the new location. Locking in the aim of the dish works best with an expensive Satellite finder which most people do not have. Next best is probably a subbed receiver connected to the dish as they normally tell you which sat you are aimed at and the signal meter is pretty good. Of course you would aim for the highest signal possible. As a last resort, you can find an inexpensive sat finder from your local Radio Shack for under $20. It is easiest to have the receiver and a TV near the dish while going through the alignment phase. If not possible, then a friend near the TV and you take tunrs yelling at each other. "How's that!" - "A little back the other way" - "Wait" - "Stop there" etc. etc. Keep in mind that even marking the position of the current setup and using a sat finder website, these are just a starting point for aiming and fine tuning will be required. Good luck. |

| That's all good advice for a puttin up a new dish there ded, but it looks like she is just wantin' to move her ole man's dish from bell to dn. If she can say near bouts where she is and what kinda dish it is, ya know one or two LNBs, standard or skewed, she can put it right on with nothing more than a sewin tape and mebbe a little tweakin' on the skew. Then all she gots to worry bout is scannin in the new sat or sats if she gots more then one lnb. |

| I don't see it as a hijacked thread. It is an opening thread in the rookie section. I was going to answer your question, but a few knowledgeable members have done so already. Good luck |

Use the link to the sat calculator provided earlier, to determine correct angle pointing settings. If going from 91 to 110/119 you will need 2 LNBs for complete package. Depending on your setup, place the 110 LNB on the arm and strap the 119 on the 110 LNB (you can also purchase either an LNB holder or bracket - see site sponsors for the item that will best suit your needs). When viewed from the back of the dish, the 119 LNB is on the left and normally about 1" higher. |
