UltraStar 4000 fried?

Hi. I haven't been using this UltraStar for a few months. Came back to update the new bin files and I think during the process, I've fried the machine.
Having the ultrastar on and connected to the com1 port, I used the 2k232 uploader program... Connected to com1, Update Software and Data (all), selected the newest file I've uploaded, allowed the program to do its thing and at the end after it stated that the process has stopped, there were two lists of codes that I wasn't familiar with...it was stuck there for a while. Normally, I'd see update successful or something like that, but this time, it was just stuck there at the two sets of codes. I then closed the uploader, unplugged the ultrastar, plugged it back in and nothing...the power doesn't even come on anymore. I then read the instructions for the uploader program and noticed that I had failed to unplug the com1 cable before I plugged the ultrastar back in. Could that have caused this?

Oh by the way, I missed a very important point. After I was connected to com1 in the uploader, and when I went to select Update Software and Files, an error message popped up "The STB can not work if downloading breaks before loading boot lock. Continue anyway?" I clicked yes and then went on to the uploading.

Crap, does that mean I closed the uploader too soon? Is there anything I can do to revive the machine? There's no power on what so ever. I can't even do factory default. Dang, am I SOL?

I used the 232 loader with the sonysat bin.... now I have no lights showing when I plug the unit in.

I believe only a JTAG can recover the unit.
I posted queries on numerous sites, but no suitable JTAG has been developed for the unit.

I shortened the above ...

Pay close attention and follow exactly..

Plug in unit WHILE PRESSING the ON button... uuuu should Appear...

This tells me your unit is not dead...


If alive do the following exactly....

Using the 2k232 loader Load the factory bin found at the SONYSAT site. and unplug ...
Do not use the 2k232 loader for any other bin...
Plug back in and Using the Latest Sonysat loader .. load the latest bin with data and it will tell you when you are ready to unplug ....
Scan and watch TV..

If you cannot find the loaders and bins I will email them to you..



Another way is forget you have a 2k232 loader and use the Sonysat loader to load the newest bin with data and they will do it all...reset factory and update all in one operation... the 2k232 can destory your unit loading new bins...These Spacestars and sonysats are smoking man.. beautiful...

The loader to use is the Sonysat loader...

I just tried holding the ON button while plugging the system in. There is no response from the system other than a little "dit" sound coming fromthe box. There is no light. No UUUU. Nothing. I guess I'm SOL.

you say use new loader, l've tried to down-load & set -up but it says no? how come l cant get new loader to work. thanks

Hi,
I used SonySat Loader v2.0 and loaded SilverSurfer_v13e.xbin by choosing "with data" option. Then, scanned the receiver for channels. It worked! I am using US after a long gap of 6 months and found that the quality has improved a lot. Great work.
